Known as the ‘wee county’, Clackmannanshire is the smallest in Scotland. Set in the very heart of the country, the area is home to around 48,000 people.
Extending 10 miles north and south between Perthshire and the River Forth, and 11 miles east and west between Stirling and Fife, this area is famous for the centuries-old traditions of wool and textile manufacturing.
The beautiful scenery is dotted with tower houses, castles (including the 15th century Castle Campbell), woollen mills and beautiful parks. Scenic country walks include Dollar Glen - a romantic wooded valley through a narrow gorge.
The Ochil Hills, which overlook the Forth Valley offering splendid views across much of Central Scotland, are popular with hillwalkers. At the foot of the Ochils, are the ‘Hillfoot’ villages. These small communities each have their own identity. The villages Blairlogie, Menstrie, Alva, Tillicoultry, Dollar and Muckhart are decorated with floral displays in the summer.
Modern amenities in the area include Sterling Mills Designer Outlet, which offers great shopping at discounted prices.
With the success of initiatives by the Council, and its economic development partners, including Scottish Enterprise Forth Valley, Clackmannan College and Clackmannanshire Enterprise, the area is being dramatically transformed.
