About Edinburgh

About Edinburgh

Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, has a population of 460,000 which grows to well over 1 million in the summer, when people from all over the world come to enjoy the city’s world-famous summer arts festivals.

Known as the ‘Athens of the North’ because of its neoclassical architecture, Edinburgh is home to the Scottish Parliament and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

JK Rowling wrote the first Harry Potter book in an Edinburgh café. Sean Connery was born in the city and UK Prime Minister, Tony Blair, went to school at Edinburgh’s Fettes College.

It’s easy to get to Edinburgh. International flights arrive daily from Europe and North America and you can travel to London by train in just over four hours or fly in under an hour.
