About Falkirk

About Falkirk

With a population of nearly 150,000 people and covering 112 square miles, the Falkirk area is right in the heart of central Scotland.

Located on the key north-south and east-west motorway and rail routes, Falkirk is within easy reach of Edinburgh and Glasgow airports as well as the border with England.

Most of the area’s population live in the town of Falkirk but there are many other bustling towns and villages set in attractive rural locations.

There’s history everywhere in Falkirk, from the 300 million-year-old fossils to Roman ruins, historic canals, battlegrounds, and fascinating heritage centres.

James Watt developed his steam engine in the area and more recently Falkirk has become famous for a new icon, the Falkirk Wheel, the world’s first revolving boatlift.
