About Inverclyde

About Inverclyde

Inverclyde is one of Scotland’s smallest council areas – 61 square miles of land stretching along the south bank of the River Clyde estuary.

The area has a maritime and industrial history and now enjoys a revitalised modern economy based on electronics, financial services and tourism. It’s also situated within easy reach of the city of Glasgow and both Glasgow airport and Prestwick airport.

Inverclyde has a number of bustling towns and rural villages set alongside the spectacular coastal reaches of the River Clyde, many with breathtaking views to the Argyll Hills and Scottish Highlands.

Towns

Inverclyde’s main towns are Greenock, Port Glasgow and Gourock. There are smaller coastal settlements at Inverkip and Wemyss Bay, and rural villages at Kilmacolm and Quarriers Village.

The Future

A joint partnership initiative is underway to regenerate the scenic riverfront area. Inverclyde Council, Clydeport Ltd, Scottish Enterprise Renfrewshire and Communities Scotland are marketing and developing 13 sites along the A8 corridor from Port Glasgow to Greenock.

The planned developments offer a combination of residential, business, industrial, leisure and tourism sites to be delivered over the next 10 to 15 years.
