About South East Scotland

About South East Scotland

South East Scotland includes East Lothian, Midlothian and the Scottish Borders. It reaches from south of the city of Edinburgh on the Firth of Forth down to the Border with England in the east.

The population of the area is about 277,793 people.

The countryside of South East Scotland has a unique character that changes with each region. With un-spoilt countryside, historic castles and lots of busy towns and villages, it is hard to resist the appeal of this area.

Close proximity to the city of Edinburgh means living in the South East of Scotland offers the perfect balance between country and city life, whether you choose East Lothian, Midlothian or the Borders.

The Borders region in the south is well known for its expertise in niche areas such as production of luxury cashmere goods, arts and crafts and electronics. Tourism is becoming increasingly important throughout the region as is developing new business opportunities.
