The economy of the Scottish Borders was built on the textile industry. In recent years it has reinvented itself with a new focus on luxury cashmere goods and the successful promotion of the area as Scotland’s leading short break destination.
The area is well known for electronics and continues to play a prominent role in the growth of this industry within Scotland. There has also been considerable investment by the European Union into the area to help regeneration and economic growth.
