South West Scotland is one of the most tranquil areas of Scotland consisting of large agricultural areas and stunning coastal views. The area is well known for its appeal to artists and writers, as well as outdoors enthusiasts.
With around 680,500 people living in South West Scotland the area enjoys a diverse mix of urban and rural environments. The main urban centres are the areas south of Glasgow including East Kilbride, Clydesdale, Kilmarnock and Dumfries.
The area has long historical links with the textile and engineering industries. Due to its scenic nature, it also has a rapidly expanding tourism industry, with a large proportion of employment in food and drink industries.
