East Kilbride is well known for high-tech industry and provides 30% of South Lanarkshire’s jobs. The biggest employer is Freescale Semiconductor (formerly Motorola) with a work force of 1,400. Other major employers include:

Cambuslang has many new industries and business parks surrounding the town, including the large Cambuslang Investment Park. Major players in the area are South Lanarkshire College, Grampian Country Foods and Thistle Healthcare.

In Hamilton there are business parks providing employment in light industry and service industries with blue chip technologies in the Hamilton International Technology Park. Big employers in the area include South Lanarkshire Council, Philips Lighting, Parks of Hamilton, Lightbody Celebration Cakes and Scottish Gas.
