As a TV Producer, Siti Rohanah Mohamad Koid knows about the value of positive advance publicity.
She had heard a lot of good things about Scotland as she was considering where to study in the UK after the award of a Scottish International Scholarship.
And she has not been disappointed in her choice of Edinburgh for her MSc in International and European Politics.
Prestigious
"My experience has exceeded expectations," said Siti, an English Language and Literature graduate from the National University of Singapore.
"Scotland had been highly recommended by my friends, who had visited and studied in the UK, and they have not let me down.
"While I had various offers from around the UK, I’m very glad to have chosen the University of Edinburgh. I can understand why it has such a prestigious name.
"The city is so beautiful and steeped in history. People in Scotland have been very gracious and tolerant.
Life enhancing
"Most enriching for me is the student community – very international, giving me perspectives from every corner of the world. My classes especially allow me to debate global issues with open hearts and open minds.
"I have been pleasantly surprised by the ease with which I've been able to adapt to life in a new country, especially without my husband who has remained in Singapore.
"As a Muslim, I have found it very reassuring to be able to practise my faith so freely and wear the headscarf without undue concern."
Opportunity
Siti, who works for Singapore's largest broadcaster, is now planning to take up her employer's offer that she remains in Scotland to gain some work experience here.
She said: "The Fresh Talent programme gives me the opportunity to apply for a work visa to take up a job in Scotland. I'm keen to make enquiries in a number of fields, from TV to marketing and promotion.
"Staying on would also give me the chance to explore more of Scotland's beautiful landscapes. I have been impressed by what I have seen so far, including the Orkney Islands, the Highlands and St Andrews."
