The Relocation Advisory Service will be in attendance at the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) The Gathering 2010 - the largest voluntary sector event in the UK. Thousands are expected to attend the
2 day event which will have over 60 exhibitors and 45 events staged over the 2 days.

ACAS cover how to comply with the law regarding document checks and how to avoid discrimination in the recruitment process. They also look at the specific needs of these workers and give advice on how to update policies and procedures.

The MAC today published the first review of the shortage occupation lists for skilled workers coming to the UK from outside the European Union. Quantity surveyors and managers in construction have been suspended from the List. However the MAC has recommended that computer animation technicians be added.

Ports from around Scotland are joining forces to promote Scotland as a destination for cruise ships. A new organisation, Cruise Scotland, will be unveiled at the leading international sea trade show in Miami next month and will also be present at the European show in Hamburg in September.
The number of cruise ships operating in Northern European waters has been growing in recent years and with the pound weaker against the dollar and the Euro, there is an opportunity to encourage cruise ships to come to Scotland.
The following ports have either joined the new organisation or are considering doing so:
Many of the ports already exhibit under the auspices of Cruise Europe and Cruise Britain, but a more-focused Scottish approach is now though to be needed.
Lerwick is expected to see passenger arrivals at record levels this year, with a total of 45 cruise ships scheduled from mid-May to late September. A new size record for the port will be made when the Crown Princess a 113,000 gross tonnes liner arrives in September.

Improving the support provided by PACE -
Partnership Action for Continuing Employment - the partnership initiative which provides help to employees when an organisation faces potential redundancies.
This will create a more seamless service between skills development and employability support, helping to minimise the time people affected by redundancy are out of work.

Employers who wish to recruit migrant workers under Tier 2 (which replaced Work Permits) or Tier 5 (Temporary Workers and Youth Mobility) must now register with the Home Office for a sponsorship licence.

The Shortage Occupation list for UK & Scotland has been published. Stakeholders in Scotland had the opportunity to contribute to Migration Advisory Service (MAC) data collection for their report on where the skills shortages in Scotland lie.

Britain's electronics and electrical engineering sector is set to benefit from the University of Edinburgh's new scholarship 'pooling' scheme that will make it easier for leading companies to recruit gifted students.
Ten companies are backing the scheme – the first of its kind in the UK – which offers financial support to high-performing electronics and electrical engineering students.
