The National Health Service (NHS) is one of Scotland's largest employers and offers an incredible range of employment opportunities. And of course, there is also private healthcare and a host of alternative and complementary care jobs.

New recommended lists of occupations for which there is a shortage of skilled workers in the UK and Scotland were published In Sep 2008 by the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC), as part of the Committee’s first major report.

 . The full recommended UK list includes:

• consultants and senior nurses in particular healthcare specialisms
• skilled senior care workers
•  The recommended Scotland list includes

all of the occupations on the UK list, plus:

●   senior nurses in care of the elderly units

●   speech and language therapists
