"I took a chance to visit Scotland on a one way ticket in 2004. With my working holiday visa I took his first steps towards a new life.
"I had never been to Scotland but had heard good things about living in Edinburgh from friends who had enjoyed the city experience.
"Within a short time I found temporary work at Audit Scotland for 15 months, and finally secured a job with Chiene + Tait one of Scotland’s leading independent accountancy firms, who were looking overseas for the answer to the skills gap in this business sector.
"I found that my qualifications Bcomm/Bec in Commerce/Economics from the Australian National University in Canberra were appropriate to the job on offer and accepted the position of Accountant. Life in Edinburgh has been fantastic ever since.
"Hypnotised by the beauty of Scotland and its capital city, I was delighted when my employer suggested that they apply for a work permit on my behalf to extend my stay.
"I had to be out of the UK when the application was made which meant a trip home to visit family and friends in Australia and to have my visa stamped to return.”
"I am now settled in Edinburgh and feel fortunate to have found a great job in a wonderful city. Not only is Edinburgh a beautiful city (my walk to work through the old town each day is something I never tire of) but there is so much happening right on my doorstep – pubs, parks, and a wide variety of entertainment.
"I also take to the hills when the weather allows! And even when it doesn't. I enjoy leisurely walks (and strenuous Munros!) amongst the lush green foliage of the Pentlands when I’m close to home, but the Highlands and islands when time permits. Not many cities have this quality of life."
