"I have always been passionate about reconnecting with my Scottish heritage. I still remember growing up and being at my grandmother’s house in Canada. She loved listening to Scottish piping bands and feeding my brother and I shortbread cookies.
"Knowing that I wanted to complete an MBA at some point in my career, I chose to complete it while I was young and able to fully commit myself without any family commitments. I decided that I’d like to complete an international MBA, and knew that Scotland would be a good choice.
"I began the MBA program at the University of Glasgow in 2004, enrolling in the full time, 12 month program. It has proven invaluable to my personal and professional development and I would recommend it to anyone.
"Upon graduation, I was planning a move back to Canada. However, I was approached by an innovative company in the construction industry called Hilti which commanded a strong brand leading position in its global markets. Hilti was also rated in the Sunday Times Top 100 Companies to work for in the UK, largely a result from its strong corporate values demonstrated by its highly committed and enthusiastic people. This was the opportunity I was looking for, so I decided to stay in Scotland and take up the new challenge.
"Three years on, and it is funny how things change. Scotland is now my home. Although I still love Canada, the amazing seasons, and the ice hockey, I feel a strong bond to where I now live.
"My personal favourites about Scotland are the Highlands, the whisky and the fishing. The fishing is especially good and would make any avid fisherman excited.
"Also, the Scots have a great sense of humour and always keep things interesting.
"There are a number of activities to take part in including mountain climbing or as they call it 'hillwalking', pub tours and football (or ice hockey if you happen to be Canadian!). I enjoy playing ice hockey with a group of friends every Friday night in Glasgow, of course followed up by a pint or two afterwards.
"Opportunities to work for great international organizations like Hilti also make Scotland an ideal place to stay and work. Scotland is a platform for the rest of the UK and Europe. It is ideal for anyone looking to for a broader international approach in their career. I am currently working on an international marketing project with a group from around the world which is proving to be great for exposure to a number of different global markets and cultures."
