Most of John M. Blundall's life has been dedicated to the development of creative puppet theatre on an international level and he occupies a unique position due to his parallel commitment to the practise of the art, also to the extensive research and theory attached to it.
John says, "I moved to Scotland in 1996, Inspired by Julian Spalding, and my Russian friends at Sharmanka; also resident in Glasgow, for many years. The richness of Scottish culture and a proliferation of creative talent, plus Scotland’s extraordinary landscapes was also a great draw
"It has always been important to me to pass on unique lifetime’s knowledge, skills and experience in the theatre and the expressive arts in general to the younger generation. Also to present the highest quality performances and exhibitions of puppet and mask theatre for the widest age range. Also to continue to develop the use and function of the puppet and mask as a tool in education and therapy.
"For nearly 60 years I have amassed a unique collection and research resource of specialised material related to the history and development of the theatre of masks and puppets world wide. This is a live working tool of international importance.
"The Collection, The World Through Wooden Eyes is an effortlessly multicultural manifestation and is now housed in The Mitchell Library, where it is considered one of the top ten treasures, and an attraction which fascinates all age groups.
"The World Through Wooden Eyes has established itself as an important focus for national and international students, and casual visitors from The UK and many parts of the world."
