Name: Ann Milović
Age: 40
Born: Canada
Lived in Scotland: 8 years
Ann Milović is a Civil servant working in the Scottish Government and Massage Therapist and lives in Edinburgh.
"I moved to Scotland in 1999 in time for devolution – I wanted to be here from the start! I had worked as a political advisor in the Canadian government and I hoped to work in some way with the then new Scottish government.
"I decided to come over because my then partner (and now husband) lived and worked here and in his line of work, it was easier for him to remain here and in work rather than if he had moved to Canada.
"I've worked in the Scottish Government (formerly Executive) since I moved and have enjoyed watching Scotland come into its own. I've also re-trained to become a Holistic Massage Therapist and have started my own business, Portobello Massage, which I am thoroughly enjoying.
Although Ann loves Scotland there is one thing which makes her homesick.
"One of the things I miss the most about Canada is being with people who share a common history, culture and background – that instant understanding that you take for granted when you live in your home country.
"The things I enjoy the most about living in Scotland are the sense of community, the sense of the common good and the generally affable people. Now if we could just collectively sort out the weather!"
