Name: Jennifer Letwin
Age: 22
Nationality: Canadian
Jennifer Letwin (left, above) moved to Scotland in 2007. She is a student at Glasgow University, studying for MSc Management in the business department.
Before settling down in Canada, Jennifer wanted to experience living in another part of the world, and to challenge herself academically beyond what she had already achieved.
You completed a four-year degree course in Canada?
"Yes, in Ontario. I moved to Calgary to work in the energy industry but had an urge to travel and experience a different way of life".
It can be very daunting to leave your home, family, friends, and what could be seen as secure employment, to step into the unknown.
What made you choose Scotland?
"I looked at various options, and kept coming back to Scotland. Glasgow held particular appeal for me. The liveliness, culture and academic opportunities really stood out."
Living in Glasgow's vibrant west end, ensures that Jennifer has a good social network and is within walking distance of all that Glasgow has to offer. Museums, art galleries, theatres, clubs, pubs and restaurants.
Do you have any regrets about your choice?
"Obviously I miss family and friends, but moving to Scotland has been a terrific experience. The country has a real spark to it. It has been everything I hoped it would be and so much more."
More an more young students are choosing to study in Scotland, and often stay on after graduation. The introduction of the Fresh Talent Post Study visa in 2008 has made this an ever more attractive proposition.
Would you recommend studying in Scotland?
"Definitely. The people are warm, friendly, and the city of Glasgow has so much to offer. It is Cosmopolitan, stylish with events and activities to suit every taste."
"I have already learned and seen so much and yet, my journey over here has barely begun!"
