Scottish Development International
SDI help companies based in Scotland develop in other countries. But they also encourage international companies to expand in Scotland.
If you currently don't live in Scotland, but want to expand your business here, you would get in touch with SDI. They give advice on the best places, training and help with recruiting staff. They also have information on a wide range of business grant schemes in Scotland.
Fiona Copping, who deals with Textiles enquires says, "Companies from abroad would usually buy over a brand that was based in Scotland because they like it. They buy over into Scottish companies because they think they're getting something from Scottish heritage. We've got a niche market and history that people love, so they buy into it.
"I deal with people out with the UK when a company is owned by people abroad. But if people wanted advice about starting a new company, we would still give them advice."

Business Gateway
Business Gateway give practical help, advice and support to new businesses. Usually, they focus on smaller companies, and the people they help are based in Scotland. They also help people who would like to expand their business in Scotland.
Scottish Enterprise
Scottish Enterprise is Scotland's main economic development agency, which is funded by the Scottish Government. They focus on developing fast growth, larger companies, which have a bigger turnover. The organisation has a list of 'priority' sectors, which are their main focus, such as food and drink, construction and tourism.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise
If you want to set up a business in the north of Scotland, you would get in touch with Highlands and Islands Enterprise. They have nine offices and they give advice to everyone thinking of starting or expanding their business in this area of Scotland. You can find contact details for the office in your area of interest on the HIE website.
The Relocation Advisory Service
The Relocation Advisory Service give advice on relocating to Scotland. They are experts in many different areas, such as immigration and business development. They can also advise you on the type of Visa that you should apply for, should you decide to move to Scotland.
