Research by Future Skills Scotland shows that whilst there is no shortage of graduates, many employers experience difficulties in reaching them.
A Scotland-wide, online service launched by university Careers Services is making it easier for businesses to track down the graduates they are looking for.
The Shared Graduate Vacancy Service (SVS) introduced by Higher Education Careers Services across Scotland is helping address this issue by providing and easy and efficient means of promoting opportunities to students and recent graduates of Scottish universities.
The Service links prospective employers with graduates more efficiently, by enabling businesses to advertise vacancies across Scotland free of charge. Employers advertise on SVS through their choice of host university and then may choose to post it automatically to the other partner universities.
More than 5,000 vacancies have already been posted by around 3,450 recruiters.
Universities currently signed up to SVS are:
Linda Murdoch, Convenor of the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services Scotland said: "Recent graduate surveys show that university careers services are one of the main places that students turn to when looking for their first job.
"In the past we have been operating our vacancy advertising independently but with the new all Scotland Shared Vacancies Service linking so many universities together it is a service that prospective employers cannot afford to miss, particularly as it doesn’t cost them a penny."
KPMG's graduate recruitment team have been delighted by the introduction of the service and reported:
"Whilst this has only been available for a short time, I believe that it has already helped raise awareness across Scotland of the graduate positions KPMG offers, and I would rate it as a better marketing tool than many I have used in the past and paid handsomely for"
