The first ever Scottish national portal for public contracting opportunities was officially launched this week as part of the Scottish Government's Economic Action Plan.

Public Contracts Scotland is a free on-line service for suppliers to have easy access to all essential information on public sector business opportunities, estimated to be worth around £8 billion a year in Scotland. It will provide one single source of information for suppliers who can then bid for these public service contracts.

In the past, one of the major barriers for small and medium sized businesses was obtaining information on central and local government contracts. Now the information is available to any business that registers - and 10,000 have done so already.
