Ferry routes connect the Western Isles and the northern isles of Orkney and Shetland with the Scottish mainland, and with a series of inter-island links.

A regular service runs across the Irish Sea to Northern Ireland, and between Rosyth on the east coast and Zeebrugge in Belgium.
