The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) provides advice to the UK Government on where shortages exist in skilled occupations that can be filled by migration from overseas.
There are 2 Lists - one for the UK and one for Scotland.
You will know that the new UK government is looking into making changes to immigration. There are 2 important consultations on this subject and the Scottish Government encourages you to participate:
UK Border Agency Consultation - this seeks views on how a limit on immigration should work - this includes questions about the coverage of limits as well as the mechanics of how they will work in practice. The Consultation seeks the views of business and other interested parties. It runs from 28 June until 17 Septemeber 2010.

MAC Consultation - this is on the annual limit of the number of non-EU migrants admitted to work in the UK in Tiers 1 and 2 of the Points Based System. The MAC Consultation will look at the level of the permanent economic migration limit for its first full year of operation (to be implemented from April 2011). The MAC Consultation runs from 30 June until 7 September 2010.
