The Festival of Light has roots in the traditional bonfire night celebrations, which happen every year on 5 November. The festival also replaces the Celtic fire festival. It was created from a desire to change the night from one of explosions and flashes into one of genuine community celebration.

At these traditional Scottish social events, you can enjoy live music from the ceilidh bands Alive and Jiggin', Hebrideans, HLI and Wild Geese. Guitarist, Albert Lee, has worked with some of the world's tops artist such as Dolly Parton and Eric Clapton, and needs no introduction to country music and rock fans. His band, Hogan's Heroes, was formed more than 20 years ago, and is made up of some of the best known rock and country musicians in Britain.

This festival is organised by the staff at East Ayrshire Libraries and it celebrates the literary world through author talks and workshops. There are events for all ages, such as the Teddy Bears' Picnic for children. Within the adult events, there is a chance to meet the famous Scottish author and chef, Nick Nairn.

Celebrate the official start of Ayr's Christmas festivities with their Christmas lights switch-on at the end of November. People can also take part in the Santa Dash, which takes place in Ayrshire for the first time this year. You get a free Santa outfit that is yours to keep and you run, jog or walk 5km for Ayrshire Cancer Support. Children's entertainment which makes this event for all the family.

Atelier are fashion designer Beca Lipscome, illustrator Bernie Reid and fine artist Lucy McKenzie. Their interior design projects use traditional techniques such as stencilling, upholstery, draping and faux finishes. The exhibition takes a peek into their studio life, showcasing finished objects as well as works-in-progress that combine fine art and design.
