Children all over Scotland have just begun their seven-week long summer holidays. There are lots of activities going on in Scotland to keep them busy. Let them enjoy a favourite pastime or learn new activities and skills. Here is a selection of summer camps, suitable for children under 12-years-old.
Eight to 12-year-olds spend their days doing white water rafting, archery and off-road biking at Dunolly’s week-long residential camps. Other activities include a high ropes course and climbing wall, nature walks and gorge ascents (scrambling and walking through the centre of a stream). There are team building games plus free time for playing at the local park and socialising with other children.
The children stay in rooms with bunk beds in groups of four to six and Dunolly are happy to cater for any dietary requirements. Pack a swimsuit, shoes you don’t mind getting wet and a fleece or thermals and you’ll be ready to have fun!

Here is a chance for horse lovers to focus on nothing but riding for a week. Borlum is a 400 acre hill farm with amazing views over Loch Ness, which runs unaccompanied children’s holidays for all levels of riders. The children are looked after 24 hours a day and kept busy with activities such as riding lessons, treasure hunts, stable management and paddling through Loch Ness. If they’re lucky, they might spot buzzards, heron, roe deer or squirrels in the surrounding countryside.

A chance to develop a musical, write the song lyrics, make up the dance sequences and be ready to perform it in a week! Aimed at children aged 11 and upwards, they will work with the best theatre directors, choreographers and composers and no audition is required. The Director gives them an idea and they take it from there.
This year, The Studio will work with a Charlie Chaplin theme and spontaneous mini-musicals to be performed during the Fringe Festival. At the end of the week, you can watch the performance. The children also get a YMT t-shirt and performance DVD to show friends and family.
