Name: Naresh Sadhnani
Age: 35
Born: India
Lived in Scotland: 2½ years
Naresh Sadhnani's work has taken him all over the globe – India, Russia, Singapore, Australia, Indonesia, the US.
In October 2001, it brought him to Scotland.
"Because I’ve worked in so many different places, I just expected Scotland to be the same as everywhere else – professional and exciting.
"In fact, it’s turned out to be better than all the other places I’ve worked.
"The people are really friendly, they accept me – they seem to accept everybody. I’ve never experienced any kind of unpleasantness."
With a Masters in Mathematics and a Masters of technology in Computer Science, Naresh’s skills as an IT project manager are in demand all over the world. So why have he and his family ended up in Glasgow?
"The company I was working for in India was involved in a research project with DA Group in Glasgow, looking into artificial intelligence. I managed the project from the Indian side and when it was completed, a position came up with DA."
Since arriving, Naresh has worked on some innovative projects, including creating animated text message characters known as Stereo-Types.
And he even finds the Scottish weather helps him work!
"People complain about the weather but I like it. The weather is very cool. I’ve worked in places like Singapore, where it’s hot and humid. In Scotland you can just get on with your work without worrying about sweating!"
"Scottish culture is different from my culture. People go to pubs and out drinking, which I don’t do. And Indian food here is completely different from what I’m used to.
"I love food and always like to try new things. I keep asking people to recommend traditional Scottish food but there’s such a mixture of cultures you get more Italian, Mexican and Chinese food than you do Scottish. Apart from haggis, which I really like!"
"Before I came here to work I’d never been to Scotland, but my family and I feel really settled here now."
In fact, Naresh and his wife took their first step on to the property ladder last year and celebrated the birth of a new baby.
"The fact that we took the decision to buy a property means we plan to stay for a while."
Naresh says: "We eat lots of Scottish salmon, prepared in an Indian style. I’d definitely recommend it"
