Universities and colleges generally have someone in the Admissions
Office who assists overseas students and who will advise on fees for
overseas students and on how much money will reasonably be needed for
living and accommodation expenses.
You may choose to be in accommodation provided by the institution
which might be cheaper than finding private rented accommodation. The
university/college would advise on this.
The British Council gives an estimate of costs in its guide 2004-2005 Studying and living in the UK.
You find this guide www.britishcouncil.org via the Information and Publications page.
You will see that there is currently an estimate of some £585 per month needed for students outside London.
If you are given entry clearance
to study here, you as a student would have the right to work up to 20
hours a week during term-time and full-time during vacations.
This cannot be taken into account when considering if you have enough funds to satisfy entry requirements.
