Scotland has a comprehensive education system in which all children must attend school from age 5-16, with the option of continuing until age 18. Your child's education is paid for by taxation and administered through your Local Authority.
The curriculum is based on guidelines prepared by Learning and Teaching Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government. The Scottish Government Education Department (SEED) is in overall charge of education in Scotland.
You must register your child for both primary and secondary school. Your Local Authority will tell you which school your child can attend and give you guidance on what to do next. You can can also read more about enrolling your child in a Scottish school.
