Glasgow-based Global Connections has been true to its name – it has a rich mix of nationalities on the books of its translation and interpreting business.
A large number of refugees and European migrants are among the hundreds of interpreters who work on a freelance basis for the company set up in 1997.
Marketing manager Lorraine Morrison says: "Foreign nationals are critical to the success of our business and we are always looking for interpreters in a variety of languages.
"Since EU enlargement, we have recruited, again on a freelance basis, many interpreters fluent in Polish, Czech and Slovak."

Likewise, foreigners have also contributed to Global Connections' sister company, Glasgow School of English, which provides English language tuition to international students.
"We offer work placement to students as we believe the students can gain a lot of experience and skills," says Lorraine. "And in the case of our most recent work experience placement, we have also gained by being able to target overseas markets.
"Edward, a young Frenchman, is helping us to focus on the French marketplace and develop business links in this market."
While the school has not recruited staff from abroad, it has employed a refugee, who initially worked as a Somalian interpreter before joining the school administration team in 2005.
Yusuf Adam, who was granted indefinite leave to remain after seeking asylum, was successful with his application when the vacancy for school administrator became available.
He subsequently worked at the school for around six months before leaving to pursue postgraduate studies at Glasgow University.
Lorraine adds: "Glasgow School of English and Global Connections are committed to ensuring that our recruitment policies are open to all candidates, regardless of race or background and we are delighted to consider applications from all candidates."
