Just because the Edinburgh Festival is coming to an end by the time September rolls round, you would be forgiven for thinking that Scotland quietens down on the music and events scene.
In actual fact, the ninth month of the year is filled with music festivals specialising in a variety of genres from jazz, blues, country and folk, to indie, reggae, soul and funk.
Apart from concerts and performances, most of these festivals also have accompanying events. To name but a few there are street fairs, ceilidhs and 'come and try' sessions where you can have a go at playing a musical instrument rather than just listening to the performers. Some festivals also cater for young children with suitable events to keep them thoroughly entertained.
Whether you're looking for a family ceilidh, want to see up-and-coming new talent, or try your hand at song writing, look no further than Scotland.
7-10 September
Linlithgow's eighth annual festival has been running since 1998 with the aim of promoting folk music in West Lothian. As well as performances, events and a ceilidh for all the family, there will also be workshops on song writing, playing the fiddle, accordion and guitar.
