New technology has enabled people to return to the islands to live and work creating strong, successful communities.
Islanders know that to thrive they need new people to come and join their communities. The local economic agencies are actively encouraging people to relocate their businesses and families to ensure future prosperity.
The Western Isles Community Economic Development Partnership is working to ensure that all of the communities of the islands, including the more remote ones, are able to benefit from sustainable social and economic opportunities.
The role of communities in developing tourism is recognised as vital. Everyone speaks English and almost 70% of the islanders are able to speak Gaelic. The Gaelic language and culture are being promoted alongside the remarkable natural features that make the area attractive to visitors.
